Sweet News!

On The Sugar Boy Website we had a section dedicated to The Sweet News... why do we need that when we have our very own blog? So au revoir sweet news, bonjour sweet blog.
SO there has been quite a lot going on this week. We have had some delicious newbies in from our friends Ross' of Edinburgh: Pan Drops, Butternuts (which are bright orange!) Wiskey Fudge and Blueberry Creams. Other jars that have squeezed themselves onto the shelves have been vimto bon bons which have been VERY popular and Barratt Fruits which are just like the bananas, but a whole variety of fruits... how fabulous!

However the most exciting thing... (if only you could have a cyber drumroll) is that JAP DESSERTS ARE BACK! Yes you heard me, they have risen from the dead and are back to haunt our waistlines. If you don't know what these wonderful sweets are then boy are you missing out. As you can see from the photo on the left - they look like the cubed sweets you find in dolly mixtures you know the ones I mean? They're a little shinier and bigger, and although they may look the same, they do not taste the same. Once you pop one of these babies in your mouth and make your way through the outer chewy centre, you discover the wonderfully chewy coconut suprise inside. DELICIOUS!

Those of you that know Sela, they have now been bought out by another confectionary company called Tilleys. Tilley's decided to only take on some of Sela's old lines and we are pleased to tell you that Sela Cough is one of them. We have had lots of anxious customers wondering so you will all be relieved to hear that they will be back on our shelves in no time!

Liquorice

Finally back in England safe and sound and a little more round than perhaps I want to be - I thoroughly enjoyed my treat eating extravaganza. But back to reality now. Today we had an ex-F1 driver buy some RJ's Soft Eating Liquorice off us today which was rather exciting.

Did you know that:
Liquorice is used in cheese, sausages and beer!!
Liquorice  is good for boosting brain function and fighting dental decay.
Liquorice originates from Pontefract - hence Pontefract Cakes which are scrummy.
Liquorice confectionary was created by a Mr George Dunhill in 1760.

Thats got my liquorice taste buds flowing...

The Sugar Boy in America

Thanks to the ash from Iceland The Sugar Boy is stuck on a sweet mission in AMERICA! (and not complaining)... or should I call it a candy mission? I have come across some delicious treats I must say. My friend Willy (Wonka that is) has come up with some new chocolate bars under the name of Wonka Exceptionals and they really are what they claim! There are three different flavors: Chocolate Waterfall (which I munched on very happily) Scrumdidilyumptious Chocolate (which I have yet to locate) and Domed Bar which is dark chocolate bar with milk chocolate pillows in the centre.

Willy and I go back a long way... old chums. I am not sure if you already know but he ordered 300 jars off me for his latest Charlie and the Chocolate factory film. I did ask for a golden ticket in return but I am not allowed to be given one, the rules mean I MUST come across one myself. SO on this trip to America I have bought myself A LOT of Wonka Bars in the hope that I will in fact find my own golden ticket..

So this weekend I went to Oxford and what did I come across? A lovely chocolate/sweet shop. The greatest thing for me to do when I see competition is to find out whether they have been able to track down sweets I haven't! AND indeed I found something they had that we didn't - Aniseed imperials. Of course I had to buy myself a 100g (or 2!) and they are scrumptious. This means I am back on my travels and on an aniseed imperial mission... I will keep you informed.

They also had a wonderful idea of making chocolate and sticking sweets in the bottom - they had milk chocolate with Barratt Bananas stuck in the bottom and I bought Sweetiepie chocolate with mixed millions in the bottom - what fun! So perhaps you may want to try for yourself at home... I certainly will be.
